Rigor for every learner
The academic program at The Patrick School is based on a traditional liberal arts curriculum. The first three years are largely standard for all students; in senior year, students are given considerably more freedom of choice. Every course is taught in a small setting — fewer than 20 students — by a high-quality instructor.
While our Honors Program prepares students for some of the top universities in the country — TPS alumni have attended Columbia, Harvard, NYU, Duke, North Carolina, Rutgers–New Brunswick Honors College, Temple and many other elite institutions — we also offer a wide range of resources for students with special learning needs, including an Inclusion Program and supplemental supports.
All students work as hard as they can, on a level that both challenges them and allows steady, consistent progress toward college readiness.

A four-year SAT & ACT prep curriculum
To help our students gain admission to — and scholarship money for — the colleges of their choice, we provide a comprehensive, four-year SAT and ACT prep curriculum. Beginning freshman year, students receive a five-day-per-week course covering every topic on both exams, from writing and mathematical reasoning to critical reading, science reasoning and vocabulary.
Daily prep course plus a practice PSAT in both freshman and sophomore year.
Two full years of preparation before the October PSAT; students take the SAT and ACT in June.
Retakes in the fall with three full years of rigorous preparation behind them.
A connected classroom
Every student uses a Chromebook connected to the school's Google environment. The entire campus has Wi-Fi, and classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards for teachers, academic facilitators and students.
Through the GradPoint blended-learning program, students access digital textbooks and take facilitator-guided online courses — expanding the electives, honors and Advanced Placement courses available at TPS.
Summer school at TPS
For nearly a decade, TPS Summer has provided opportunities for students from TPS and surrounding public and private schools across Union, Essex and Middlesex counties — and as far as Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina and Florida. Fully certified and approved by the Middle States Association and the NCAA.
30-hour credit recovery +
For students who failed a course and need to make up the credits to pass to the next grade level and graduate. Example: a student who received a 58 in Geometry retakes the course in summer school to move on to Algebra II the following year.
60-hour credit recovery +
A deeper recovery option for students who failed a course and need to make up credits — same goal, more instructional time.
120-hour original credit +
For students who have never taken a course before — advance your standing in a math track, add credits, or take enrichment courses. Example: an honor-roll student who earned a 97 in Algebra I takes original-credit Geometry over the summer to accelerate into Algebra II in 10th grade.
