Coaches & players
Meet the staff and student-athletes carrying the Patrician basketball tradition forward — a family first, a program second.
Led by coaches who build pros — and people
Chris Chavannes
Coach Chavannes, a long-time Morris County resident originally from Jamaica, takes the helm again after twelve years with The Patrick School. Coaching for over 30 years, he has produced and assisted in the production of numerous NBA players — a storied history impossible to capture in this format. Outside his roles with TPS he is a teacher and administrator who coaches numerous boys' and girls' teams. His favorite basketball memory: skills training in the blazing heat at Saint Patrick High School.
Joseph Jordan
A cornerstone of The Patrick School with twelve years of service over two stints. A Maplewood, NJ native, he played at East Orange High School and Cheyney State University before amassing 40+ years of coaching experience at the high school and AAU levels — seven state titles and countless tournament wins. Off the court he is a retired accountant, devoted husband and father whose greatest joy is helping kids achieve their dreams.
Lloyd Wheeler
Queens, NY native bringing Division I experience — Graduate Assistant and Video Coordinator at St. John's University (2019–2023) under Head Coach Mike Anderson. He began his playing career at Pitt-Titusville (All-Conference, All-Tournament, Team Captain) and continued at Presentation College (NAIA Scholar Athlete). He holds a Bachelor's in Business Management and a Master's in Sports Management from St. John's.
Joe Ross
From East Brunswick, NJ — a renowned player development and shooting coach who has trained 20+ professional players and 30+ scholarship athletes from programs like Florida, LSU, Texas Tech and Notre Dame; last season his trainees competed in the NBA G-League and 14 countries. At Ithaca College he was part of the 2012 Conference Championship team that reached the Division III Sweet 16. Owner of JRR Hoops, with 175,000+ social followers for his elite training expertise.
Ike Iwu
South Jamaica, Queens native entering his second season at TPS, bringing expertise in player development and recruitment honed at top Brooklyn programs like Lincoln, Nazareth and South Shore. He played AAU with Long Island Lightning before Queensborough CC and York College. Beyond basketball he is a Special Education Coordinator ensuring young students receive essential support — and he DJs in his free time.
Keith Russell
A staple of the New York basketball scene who has won every tournament his AAU program consistently competes in at least once. A 4-year letterman at West Side High School, he is an IT professional with a degree from NJIT. His favorite coaching memory: an ex-player telling him as an adult that Coach Russell changed his life — the highest honor a coach can receive.
Sherard Rogers
Newark, NJ native in his third year at TPS. He held JV and varsity roles at Frederick Douglass, Paris, and Dunbar High Schools in Kentucky, and starred as a player at Saint Patrick's High School before Saint Benedict's Prep, Cecil College and Eastern Kentucky University (Division I scholarship). He also served as Head Director of Indianapolis's After-School Substance Abuse Program through Public Allies AmeriCorps.
